Bauhaus Chessmen

Beside it’s clean-cut appearance the Bauhaus Chessmen does move well in subtle statements. Their shapes mimic their moves each figure is permitted to take - for example, the bishop is shaped like an “x” to indicate it can move diagonally forward or backward. This solid maple Chess set is actually an exact reproducing of a famous architectural Design product of Josef Hartwig in 1927. The Chessmen come neatly packaged in a beech wood case that includes instructions and a history of the design to inform you about why it is a part of the Museum of Modern Art’s permanent collection.
